Shimano Curado BFS Baitcast Reel

The Shimano Curado BFS (Bait Finesse System) expands the Curado range while redefining what finesse baitcasting can achieve for tournament and light-tackle anglers.

Inspired by Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) finesse techniques, the Curado BFS is built around an ultra-lightweight shallow spool specifically designed for thin-diameter lines and lightweight lures. This allows anglers to cast smaller presentations far more effectively than with traditional low-profile baitcasters — making it the perfect reel for targeting pressured or finicky fish.

At the heart of the Curado BFS is Shimano’s Finesse Tune Brake (FTB) system, which moves the braking unit from the spool to the palming side plate. This dramatically reduces spool weight, meaning less force is required to start rotation and the spool responds instantly to light lure loads.

Unlike conventional magnetic brakes that apply constant drag throughout the cast, FTB uses centrifugal force and magnetic control to apply braking only when it’s needed, maximising casting distance while maintaining control. Anglers can fine-tune the system via the external dial or by adding or removing internal magnets for precise control.

The result is a refined, smooth, and highly responsive finesse reel that allows anglers to confidently downsize baits, fish lighter lines, and increase hook-up opportunities on pressured fish.
